Maine on the Move: A Coastal Road Trip

June 6, 2022June 8, 2022 Jess

I’d love to romanticize the reason we packed our bags and flew to Maine. But the truth is that we were too scared to fly further than two hours the first time we had our kid in tow. So, we paired proximity with butter-drenched lobster rolls and ocean views, and had ourselves a vacation plan.

A Modern Harbor Springs Haven

May 3, 2022June 8, 2022 Jess

This past weekend, we loaded up the car to explore a part of the state we haven’t spent much time in - northern Michigan’s Petoskey area - and in particular, the quaint and charming Harbor Springs community situated on Little Traverse Bay.

A Luxe, Relaxed Escape in Elk Rapids

April 5, 2022April 7, 2022 Jess

Most of the time, it’s a destination that drives me to plan a weekend away. But in this case, late-night scrolling on Airbnb - which revealed one of the most swoon-worthy home rentals I’d seen - was the impetus for a trip to Elk Rapids, just north of Traverse City, Mich.

Hooch, Horses & Hiking: Four Days & A 40th Birthday in Kentucky

April 5, 2022April 6, 2022 Jess

What do you get for a whisky-loving wanderluster that's nearing the big 4-0? A weekend away, family style, with a dabbling of distilleries and a whole lot of hiking (because that's also one of his favorite things).

Road Trip: Discovering Hocking Hills

June 28, 2021April 5, 2022 Jess

Ever since we returned from the Hocking Hills, we've been asking ourselves how all of metro Detroit isn't familiar with the easily road-trippable destination, just south of Columbus in Ohio.

Most years, we’re trekking mountains or exploring new beaches over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. This year, things look a L I T T L E bit different. 🎀 👶🏼
Happy Father’s Day, @trevpawl! Every day that our little man gets to experience the world with your guidance is a gift. We’re so grateful for you.
This time, last year, in MAINE. We ate all the seafood 🦞, danced on all the beaches ⛱, and experienced every type of late spring weather that Mother Nature could throw at us 💨
When water is medicine. ✨
This was the second time we booked this outdated Airbnb, located inconveniently far from civilization. And here’s why: It’s big enough to sleep our whole family comfortably and just look at this lot … green, grassy hills; vast, sandy beach; and endless Lake Huron views.
Kentucky’s Red River Gorge is a Midwestern hiker’s dream (and driveable, although we flew into Lexington to have some fun first 😜).
A stay at the @elmoorelodge in Detroit has long been on my list, so it was a no-brainer to pop into the new Seasons Market & Cafe, which shares the same Midtown lot of land and just opened this spring.
Headed to Lake Huron’s “sunset side” in Ontario for the first time this season, to take advantage of the 80-degree temps and smaller May crowds.
